OVERVIEW: Adherence to a code of ethics is an essential obligation for all behavioral health professionals. Keeping an eye towards ethics and ethical issues, managing and navigating ethical dilemmas, and determining course of action can be “tricky” to say the least. This 3-hour interactive ethics presentation will provide a refresher in defining ethics and in utilizing ethical decision-making models. The focus will be on identifying key ethical issues and dilemmas that commonly challenge profession-als in clinical practice and to explore the most effective strategies in addressing these situations. Case vignettes will be inte-grated throughout the presentation for meaningful dialogue about the ethical challenges in clinical practice.
Speaker: Sandra A. Lopez is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and her expertise is in trauma, traumatic grief, professional self-care and cultural competency. She provides LCSW supervision to many social workers across diverse settings and integrates a trauma-sensitive approach in clinical supervision. Sandra is a Clinical Professor and graduate of the University of Houston – Graduate College of Social Work Her research interest includes trauma in adults, children and adolescents.
