15th Annual Spirit of Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show

Houston, Texas - The 15th Annual Spirit of Spring Luncheon and Fashion Show benefiting The Children's Assessment Center was held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Westin Galleria.  This year’s Spirit of Spring marked a very special occasion as The CAC celebrated 15 years of Houston pledging support for child victims of sexual abuse.  It was a full house with over 500 supporters in attendance helping to raise funds for programs that are critical to the healing of child victims of sexual abuse.

Outstanding event chairs Tina Davis, Lidiya Gold, Denise Hazen and Yvette Webb planned a delightful afternoon with the perfect mix of fabulous spring and summer fashions coupled with a focus on the serious issue of child abuse and how we as a community can better protect our children.  Senator Joan Huffman was recognized as the luncheon’s honoree for her continued efforts championing numerous bills strengthening the criminal justice system and protecting children from human trafficking, sexual assault and abuse.  The fashions for this year’s show were provided by Tootsies and Cheeky Vintage and included a beautiful runway of the latest spring and summer trends and exquisite vintage finds!

The guest speaker for the event was Alicia Kozakiewicz, a remarkable young woman who was the victim of internet luring and was abducted to another state where she was held captive.  Following a miraculous rescue by the FBI and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), Alicia came to realize that other children need not suffer her traumatic experience and so the “Alicia Project,” focusing on internet safety and awareness education was born.  Ms. Kozakiewicz drew the audience’s attention to the very real issue of online predators and the need to be diligent with internet safety programs in order to keep our children safe.

Lisa Malosky served as the dynamic Mistress of Ceremonies and Stephen Lewis served as Auctioneer for the Tenenbaum & Co. Classic Jeweler Live Auction item.  The highly coveted jewels included an 18k Yellow Gold, Kunzite and Amethyst Suite!

A moving tribute to the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) brought the luncheon guests to their feet as the crowd expressed gratitude for the team’s diligent work in keeping children safe from internet predators.  For the 15th Anniversary celebration, The CAC also recognized all of the past Spirit of Spring event chairs for their support through the years.

This year’s underwriter was CenterPoint Energy and major sponsors included:  Air Liquide, Jana and Richard Fant, Frost Bank, H-E-B and Momentum Jaguar and Land Rover Southwest Houston.  CAC Foundation Board of Directors members in attendance included Paulette Arana, Ericka Bagwell, Susan Boggio, Paul Bragg, Diane Caplan, Brady Crosswell, Chris DeClaire, Yolanda Green, Marta Mattox, Kim Moody, Gail Prather, Alicia Smith, Megan Sutton-Reed and Yvette Webb.  Others present were CAC Executive Director Elaine Stolte, Harris County District Attorney Devon Anderson, Texas Children’s Hospital CEO Mark Wallace, Emily and Holcombe Crosswell, Ursaline Hamilton, Brenda and Tom Koch, Amy Lee, Stephanie Perkins, Susan Plank and Rob Wilson.
