HOUSTON, TEXAS (July 16, 2013)- A drive down Kirby Drive reveals The Children’s Assessment Center’s (CAC) vibrant new sign leading the way to a safer community for Houston’s children. The eye catching logo marks the completion of Phase I of The CAC’s Capital Campaign and the soon-to-be completed garage. The new parking garage will increase parking for staff and families receiving services at The CAC and provide after-hours retail parking for those shopping and dining in the popular Rice Village. The new parking garage is five stories with 420 parking spots. Zoës Kitchen General Manager for the Rice Village location, Meredith Jones, commented, “This really adds value to all of the other retail vendors…this garage will help answer the too often heard question of “where do we park?” The project team for the expanded CAC campus consists of Gensler, Tellepsen Builders and the Irvine Team.
CAC Executive Director, Elaine Stolte, commented, “Since we first opened our doors in 1998, our services have grown immensely. Internet crimes alone have added a new dynamic to child abuse cases and we need to continue to be vigilant in the protection of our children. I hope our new sign brings attention to the incredible work we do for our community. Our expansion is vital to provide the additional training mandated for teachers and first responders so that they know how to recognize, report and respond to child sexual abuse. The future of our children depends on how we, as a community, respond to vulnerable children in need. We hope that Houston opens up their hearts and contributes to our capital campaign.”
The Children’s Assessment Center broke ground on its expansion project during an official Groundbreaking Ceremony in 2012. This marked the beginning of a campus expansion to better advocate for all children in our community through the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. The Children’s Assessment’s Capital Campaign has raised $17 million and needs to raise an additional $13 million to fulfill its goal. Upon completion, Phase II of The CAC’s Capital Campaign will allow additional partner agencies to co-locate at The CAC and expand the size of the current training room in order to train and educate more first responders and the community at large on the signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse so everyone can do a better job of protecting our children.
All parking proceeds will benefit The Children’s Assessment Center, which is Houston’s advocacy center serving sexually abused children. Naming opportunities for the building expansion are now available!
The mission of The Children’s Assessment Center is to provide a professional, compassionate and coordinated approach to the treatment of sexually abused children and to serve as an advocate for all children in our community. As a collaboration of Harris County Commissioners Court and The Children’s Assessment Center Foundation, The CAC represents a true partnership between the public and private sectors for the most effective service delivery to sexually abused children and families. The Children’s Assessment Center provides services to nearly 5,000 sexually abused children each year in collaboration with 45 partner agencies.
