HOUSTON, TX – On, November 13, 2011, fans of fine food and wine enjoyed delicious Italian cuisine at the 9th Annual International Risotto Festival held at The Houston Design Center. This year’s culinary competition benefited The Children’s Assessment Center. Some of Houston’s top restaurants and chefs competed with their unique risotto recipes for the honor of 2011 Winner. It was a tough decision for the judges with all entries ranking extremely close. Mistress of Ceremonies, Molly Glentzer of GLOSS, revealed the winners at the awards presentation. Honorable Mention went to Chef Jon Buchanan of Trevisio. Taking 2nd Runner-Up was Carmelo Mauro of Carmelo’s, and 1st
Runner-Up was David Grossman of Branch Water Tavern. The Winner of the 2011 Risotto Festival was Scotty Campbell with Viking. Chef Scotty’s winning recipe included black truffle and porcini mushroom risotto with pecan smoked prime rib. Delicious!
In addition to enjoying the scrumptious risotto entries, guests also enjoyed music and entertainment, exotic cars, a raffle drawing, two auction travel packages, a children’s play area and designer showroom tours.
Elaine Stolte, Executive Director of The Children’s Assessment Center, thanked everyone in attendance for supporting The CAC and the work that is done to help bring hope and healing to child victims of sexual abuse. Honorary Chair, Consul General of Italy, Fabrizio Nava, expressed his gratitude to be a part of the Risotto Festival that supports such a worthy cause. The Consul General enjoyed participating as a judge in the competition for the second year in a row and announced to the crowd that he was again impressed by the delicious and decadent ingredients that the chefs used in their risotto entries!
