National Night Out

On October 6, 2015, The Children’s Assessment Center hosted a National Night Out Event to support national efforts to build strong community partnerships that promote safe neighborhoods.  This was a free event for the whole family. Activities included demonstrations from emergency response vehicles such as a Houston Police Department SWAT vehicle, a Harris County Sheriff Office Tactical Vehicle, Southside Place Fire Department fire truck and more. Other activities included face painting, a bounce house, music, food, and a guest appearance by the Snow Queen.

National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event that is sponsored nationally by the National Association of Town Watch. This year was the 32nd anniversary of National Night Out with over 38 million people across the country participating.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participate in, local anti-crime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police/community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

2015 Houston Oilman’s Invitational Shooting Tournament (H.O.I.S.T.) 

This year marked the 19th Annual H.O.I.S.T. Tournament and 480 participants joined for another incredible event!  The 2015 tournament was held at the Westside Sporting Grounds in Katy, Texas on May 15th and 16th.  The course opened on Friday for practice and the main event took place on Saturday.  On Saturday evening, H.O.I.S.T. presented a check to The CAC for $70,000, bringing the H.O.I.S.T. contributions to $1,015,000!  We are grateful for the longtime support of such a generous organization that truly cares about improving the lives of sexually abused children in our community, as well as helping to reduce the number of children who are victims.  Special thanks to Lauren and Joe Byars and all the H.O.I.S.T. Committee, Board of Directors and Sponsors.  The CAC was truly honored to be a part of it!

David Yurman Gives Back Shopping Party 

David Yurman generously chose The Children’s Assessment Center to be the beneficiary of a Shopping Party at their Galleria store location on April 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  Guests enjoyed sips and sweets while browsing captivating gemstone jewelry and the very first Albion timepiece.  David Yurman generously donated 10% of proceeds to The CAC.  We thank David Yurman for supporting The CAC and our mission!  

2015 Bash at the Brewery

The Children’s Assessment Center (The CAC) hosted the First Annual Bash at the Brewery Event on Tuesday, February 24th at St. Arnold’s Brewery.  David Key and David Acosta, CAC Board members, generously shared their talent with the guests as they performed popular classic-rock hits with their fellow band members of The Offering Band. The Offering Band is a collection of working professionals giving back by playing a collection of music for no charge at charity fund raisers.

More than 150 guests mingled, listened to music and enjoyed barbeque from Goode Co. Barbeque all while sampling the many beers St. Arnold’s is known for.  Elaine Stolte, Executive Director of The CAC, thanked everyone for attending and for showing their support. Stolte added that The CAC is thankful for supporters such as the attendees at the Bash at the Brewery who help not only spread awareness, but also encourage prevention of child sexual abuse.  Dr. Lawrence Thompson, Supervisor of Therapy and Psychological Services at The CAC, also shared a story and a letter from a 15-year old sexual abuse survivor who has received counseling services from The CAC.  Dr. Thompson stated that her story was an example of the strength and courage of so many of the sexual abuse survivors The CAC helps each and every year. 

Other Board Members in attendance included:  Paulette Arana, Diane Caplan, Emily Essaye, Allison Flikerski, Lauren Maloy and CAC Board President Gail Prather. Sarah Cotting, Amanda Seaberg and Megan Vondra were also in attendance.

Tournament and 480 participants joined for another incredible event!  The 2014 tournament was held at the Westside Sporting Grounds in Katy, Texas on May 16th and 17th.  The course opened on Friday for practice and the main event took place on Saturday.  On Saturday evening, H.O.I.S.T. presented a check to The CAC for $75,000, bringing the H.O.I.S.T. contributions to $945,000!  We are grateful for the longtime support of such a generous organization that truly cares about improving the lives of sexually abused children in our community, as well as helping to reduce the number of children who are victims.  Special thanks to Lauren and Joe Byars and all the H.O.I.S.T. Committee, Board of Directors and Sponsors.  The CAC was truly honored to be a part of it!

Black Sheep Agency’s “A Christmas Care-All” Benefiting The CAC

On December 4, 2013, Black Sheep PR Agency hosted “A Christmas Care-All” at Spring Street Studios and chose The CAC as the beneficiary of their holiday bash. Guests brought toy donations for the children served by The CAC as entry into the event. The party included: live entertainment, food trucks, spirits from St. Arnolds and various other local breweries, a photo booth, silent auction and even a “Pie in the Face Booth” for guests to enjoy tossing a pie at local Houston celebrities. Black Sheep generously donated 100% of the silent auction proceeds to The CAC! It was a festive evening filled with holiday cheer and generous guests who were excited to make a difference in the lives of the children served by The CAC. Special thanks to Black Sheep Agency for including The CAC in their holiday tradition this year!

On May 18-19, 2012, The Children’s Assessment Center was honored to be a part of the 16th Annual H.O.I.S.T. Tournament.  It was another incredible year for H.O.I.S.T. with over 450 participants joining in on the fun.  Practice rounds took place on Friday to prepare for the tournament on Saturday.  Many of the participants of the tournament come out to play year after year and are not only committed to having a great time and enjoying some friendly competition, but they are passionate about raising funds for The Children’s Assessment Center!  H.O.I.S.T. presented a check to The CAC this year for $75,000, which brings the H.O.I.S.T. contributions to $795,000!  We are grateful for the support of such a generous organization that truly cares about improving the lives of sexually abused children in our community, as well as helping to reduce the number of children who are victims.  We are especially thankful to Joe and Lauren Byars for their dedication to the mission of The CAC for over 15 years.  Congratulations to the H.O.I.S.T. Committee, Board of Directors and Sponsors on an extremely successful 2012 event!

A wonderful group of supporters in Crosby, Texas hosted the 1st Annual Jog the Journey 5K and 10K run and selected The Children’s Assessment Center as the benefiting charity for this year’s event.  The run took place on March 31, 2012 at 8:00 AM at the Crosby, Texas Fairgrounds.  After the race, there were awards, a raffle, prizes and music for all to enjoy!  It was a fun day and we greatly appreciate the generosity of our supporters in Crosby!

Golf for Greater Houston

Fluor Corporation hosted its annual Golf for Greater Houston Charity Event on March 25th and March 26th at the Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas.  The event Sponsor Party took place on March 25th, and the festivities continued on March 26th with the Fifth Annual Golf for Greater Houston Charity Tournament that included contests, raffles and an Awards Dinner.  The Children’s Assessment Center was chosen as one of four charity beneficiaries and was presented with a generous check for $50,000.  The other benefiting charities included Casa de Esperanza, The ARC of Fort Bend, and Blessed be Hope for Three.

Ralph Lauren at the Houston Galleria hosted a wonderful event on December 8th benefiting The Children’s Assessment Center.  This is the 2nd year for Ralph Lauren to host this holiday event with 15% of sales benefiting The CAC.  Debbie Martinez, CAC Board of Directors President, was one of the hostesses again this year.  The night was complete with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and holiday shopping.  We greatly appreciate the continued support of Ralph Lauren!

9th Annual Risotto Festival

The 9th Annual International Risotto Festival took place on Sunday, November 13th at the Houston Design Center from 2 – 6 PM.  This year’s culinary competition benefited The CAC.  The Risotto Festival brought together chefs from the finest restaurants in Houston to prepare their signature risotto dishes for guests to sample.  It was tough to pick a favorite, but the esteemed panel of judges selected Scotty Campbell with Viking as the 2011 Risotto Festival Winner.  Chef Scotty’s winning recipe included black truffle and porcini mushroom risotto with pecan smoked prime rib.  Delicious!  It was an entertaining afternoon with delicious food, wine, music and showroom shopping.  We enjoyed partnering with the Houston Design Center for this fun event! 

5th Annual KBR Charity Golf Tournament

The Children’s Assessment Center was excited and honored to be selected as one of the charity beneficiaries of KBR’s Fifth Annual Charity Golf Tournament.  This is the 2nd year in a row that The CAC was selected for this honor, and we are incredibly grateful for the continued support and commitment of KBR in helping child victims of sexual abuse.  The tournament was held on September 21st at Kingwood Country Club with over 500 participants.  Through generous support of the event, KBR was once again able to build on the company mission of community service and donate all proceeds raised at the event to 15 charities.  The charities selected reflect KBR’s commitment to health, education and the environment.  KBR generously awarded The Children’s Assessment Center with a check for $20,000.  Thank you KBR for this most generous donation to help provide hope andhealing to the children we serve!

2011 Houston Oilman’s Invitational Shooting Tournament (H.O.I.S.T.)

On May 13-14, 2011, The Children’s Assessment Center was honored to be a part of the 15th Annual H.O.I.S.T. Tournament. Over 420 participants joined in on the fun this year, practicing and brushing up on their skills on Friday to prepare for the tournament on Saturday. Many of the participants of the tournament come out to play year after year and are not only committed to having a great time and enjoying some friendly competition, but they are passionate about raising funds for The Children’s Assessment Center! H.O.I.S.T. presented a check to The CAC this year for $75,000, which brings the H.O.I.S.T. contributions to $720,000. We are grateful for the support of such a generous organization that truly cares about improving the lives of sexually abused children in our community, as well as helping to reduce the number of children who are victims. We are especially thankful to Joe and Lauren Byars for their dedication to the mission of The CAC for over 14 years. Congratulations to the H.O.I.S.T. Committee, Board of Directors and Sponsors on an extremely successful event!

4th Annual KBR Charity Golf Tournament
