Training and Prevention

The Children’s Assessment Center’s (CAC) Training Program’s goal is to increase the professionals’ knowledge and raise community awareness by providing quality trainings about child sexual abuse. The CAC works is to protect children by increasing awareness in the community about child sexual abuse. The CAC’s Training Program is designed to help professionals and community members: 1) identify the signs and symptoms of sexual abuse, 2) report abuse in accordance with Texas laws, 3) provide the best services to children and families addressing trauma, and  4) prevent child sexual abuse.

The CAC Training Program increases public awareness and educates the community on child abuse topics.  Our staff is frequently invited to make presentations to schools, civic organizations, religious organizations, and other social services agencies to educate professionals and parents about issues related to child sexual abuse.  We provide extensive education opportunities through our training request program to the Harris county community. The CAC Training Division facilitates trainings for adults and children. Safety and abuse prevention trainings are available for children from Pre-K to High School. The trainings are available in English and Spanish.  The CAC offers free and low-cost trainings to professionals, community members, and first-responders on preventing, recognizing, responding to and reporting abuse.

The CACs Continuing Education Program objective is to educate professionals who work with children and families who have experienced the trauma of child sexual abuse about research, and best practices in investigations, assessment and treatment.  In addition, The CAC provides the necessary credits needed for licensure. In many of the professional development and continuing education courses, continuing education units (CE hours) are available for social workers, counselors, therapists, professional educators, psychologists, and law enforcement.
