January is National Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
January brings a hope for new beginnings to us all, and an increased awareness to the epidemic of human trafficking in this country. Our hope at The Children’s Assessment Center (The CAC) is that during this month we can unite individuals and organizations to help us bring hope and support to survivors of trafficking through a coordinated, collaborative approach to fighting trafficking. Houston is a hub for human trafficking, and it will take every one of us to make a difference and stop this tragedy.
Our message this month is simple – Ignite Change: Because Every Child Matters.
We encourage you to join us for The CAC’s Trafficking Awareness Day on January 9th. This day will start with a press conference and trainings featuring speakers from our various partner agencies to empower our partners, staff, and community in ending this tragedy that is occurring on our streets every day in Harris County. Here at The CAC, our staff members are experts on trauma-informed care and will be available to answer your questions.
The CAC serves as the facilitator for the Houston Area Child Sex Trafficking Team Advisory Council addressing child sex trafficking cases in our community. Together with our other council members, The CAC works to ensure that every Houston area child sex trafficking victim receives the most coordinated, effective, and trauma-informed response possible.
It is crucial for every adult to learn how to recognize the signs of trafficking and what you can do to help children at risk. We encourage you to take these messages into your workplace, churches, home, and schools to spread awareness. By working together, we can help protect children who desperately need it.
In addition to The CAC’s Trafficking Awareness Day, we are hosting virtual and in-person training opportunities on trafficking that you can attend at your convenience. They are below:
