Through the expertise of Court Advocates, Children’s Court Services (CCS) provides essential services to child victims and caregivers such as crisis intervention and explanation of the court process as they navigate the criminal justice system. If a trial becomes necessary, the advocate establishes a trusting relationship with the child and explains court procedures in terms the child can understand. They serve as a support person during preparation meetings and in the courtroom when the child testifies. Since family members are often witnesses and therefore not allowed in the courtroom during trial, the advocate is with the child while they testify about their experience. No child should have to walk into a courtroom alone.
